R7. shaping techniques.
I learnt a new technique for folding small pieces of metal sheet. Using a tool called a folding bar that slides either side of the material and placed in a vice, you can bend sheet metal along the side of the bar or on the end by gently tapping it over with a raw hide mallet. Must be a raw hide mallet, otherwise the metal will get marked if a metal one is used. 10/10/2012.
I learnt a new way of forming acrylic sheet via a two part mold and clamping the acrylic between them in a vice. (picture) when I came to use my mold I didn’t prepare the vice beforehand and one part of the mold slipped out of place and so didn’t make a true copy of the mold. 10/10/2012.
Metal forging.
Before starting my current course at Bright Uni, i was studying at Farnham UCA doing my metal and jewelry degree where i spent most of the year working in the hot metal forge work shop. Today i have been teaching 3 of my peers the different techniques for lighting and controlling the forge its self and also the forging techniques for shape the metal to its desired shape. In demonstrating the techniques i forged a metal tea light holder for in the garden for those nice quiet night on a nice summers day and also a balancing ornament, both pieces stake into the ground.
